Dormant creativity

Your creativity never disappears, it is only dormant.

I learned yesterday that the oldest viable seed ever germinated was a sacred lotus. It was recovered from a dry lake bed in China that was once a lotus-filled pond cultivated by Buddhists.

In 1995, a team led by plant physiologist Dr. Jane Shen-Miller successfully germinated the ~1,200-year-old seed and it grew into a healthy lotus plant that went on to produce viable seeds of its own. She remarked, "It's unbelievable it could sleep for thousands of years and in four days a little green shoot emerged".

I find this a beautiful metaphor for the power of creativity to spring back to life with gusto even after decades of neglect. All that is required is that we give it the right conditions. Just like the seed was waiting for sunlight and water, your creativity is waiting for some time and attention.

What is one small way you could water your creative seeds today?

P.S. For my part, I felt inspired to write my first haiku in I can't remember how long.
